Winter Trees in Watercolor

This class focuses on painting winter trees in a field of snow and is sure to chase the winter blues away! It is a beginner friendly class. You will be guided through each step of the painting. Brushes, watercolor paint, and professional level cotton paper will be provided. Please bring with you 2 containers for water, an old towel, paper towels, a pencil, and a small water bottle.

Pantry Basket

This basket uses an 8X12 rectangle to shape and create a round storage basket. The finished size is 12 ¾” on top with a basket height of 4 ¾” and overall height of 8 ½”. Please bring with you an old towel, clothespins, and a needle nosed pliers. Weaving experience helpful.

Ukrainian Eggs 

Create your own beautiful Ukrainian eggs. Perfect for Easter decorating or any time of the year.This wax resist process is similar to batik. You will leave class with 2 finished eggs and all the materials to create more at home.

Introduction to Gouache and Illustration

This class is beginner friendly and gives you the opportunity to experiment with water based paint similar to watercolor. It is an opaque medium and traditionally was used in illustration work. We will paint a vintage style illustration using gouache. * The instructor will help you get the drawing on paper so no drawing experience needed. Brushes, gouache paint and professional level illustration paper will be provided. Please bring 2 containers for water, an old towel, paper towels, a pencil, and a small spray bottle. You are welcome to bring your own art supplies also.

Remote Control Basket (A) or Garlic Basket (B) – Please Choose One

A: A fun weave for beginner or experienced weavers! This basked is rectangle shaped 4X10” with a permanent wire handle. All weaving techniques will be used. A variety of colors will be available.

B: A quick woven open spaces basket woven with a handle to hang. It can be made smaller larger depending on your choice.

Both baskets are good for all levels of weaving experience. For both baskets please bring to class clothes pins, needle nosed pliers, an old towel.

Mini Book 3 Ways – Please Note: New Location

Participants will create 3 different types of blank books. A hardcover accordion, a softcover pamphlet stitch, and a ‘zine. These small books can be used for personal journaling, list making/keeping, photos, or even given as gifts. All materials will be provided. Everyone will leave with at least 3 books.

Tobacco Wall Welcome

This basket uses a 10X10 hoop to make an open weave wall basket. Glue is used to secure spokes in place. A metal “WELCOME” goes inside. This is good for all levels of experience. Please bring clothespins, needle nosed pliers, old towel.

Hand Stitched Collages – Please Note: New Location

Participants will practice multiple collage techniques using a wide variety of new, recycled, and vintage papers. Basic embroidery techniques will be added as a top feature. Finished works will range between 4X6 and 8X10 inches. These small sized will be great for use as card fronts, or small framed art to keep or give away. All materials and tools will be provided.

Fabric “Slow Down & Stitch” Book – Please Note: New Location

Make a 5”X6” fabric book. Learn how to embellish the pages with embroidery, slow stitching, fabric collage, etc. You will not finish the entire book during the class, but, you’ll leave with all the information (and some of the supplies) you need to continue to slow down and enjoy the project at home. Everything you need will be provided but, if you’d like feel free to bring fabric scraps, embroidery thread, and any other textiles you’d like to incorporate. Basic sewing is NOT required but skills such as threading a needle, tying knots, running stitch, and/or blanket stitch will be helpful. No worries though, if you are a beginner…I’ll be there to help you learn!!!

Introduction to Charcoal: What’s the Big Fuss About Charcoal?

This beginner class will teach you the secrets behind working with this malleable medium, how to sketch with it, and how to achieve beautiful dark and light effects in a drawing. We will focus on basic techniques of shading, using light and shadow with the use of kneaded erasers, how to use vine, willow, and compressed charcoal, and charcoal pencils. Please bring: an old washcloth in a ziplock bag or a small supply of baby wipes. This is for your hands as they will get dirty. Bring a sturdy 18″X24″ support for the paper such as a piece of cardboard or foam board and bulldog or office clips to attach paper to the board. You are welcome to bring your own charcoal and art supplies if you would like. The instructor will supply all the charcoal, newsprint and kneaded erasers to use during class. Vinyl gloves will be available too for those who might want to use them.
